This was produced as a Wajima-nuri lacquerware vessel dedicated to French cuisine for the documentary NHK Special: Creating Together. It is an arrangement of the Muromachi-period Ōryōki “Shōbōji Bowl,” boldly expanded horizontally and finished in jet black to evoke a sense of the void, used here to serve the main fish dish.
We hope you can feel the craftsmanship of a now-late master artisan in your daily life.
